It's time file/media management becomes a first-class citizen in Drupal. It should have been a full-fledged initiative for D8.
[Solution X] was left alone by the Big Players after initial backing (Looking at you, [company A]).
There is no doubt that [solution X] is the future. [Solution Y] has a few features that can be incorporated but it takes a very hacky approach.
I really like what [solution Y] is doing. [Solution Y] has the content creators in mind like NO other solution.
We need to focus on the content creators! The state of media handling is overall appalling.
Where should we go from here?
We should start now!
Solid and reliable D8 media handling solution/solutions must be ready early enough.
Talk, talk, talk...
Let's try to work together and use the best from each solution.
Make development sustainable
There is a lot of work to do. Relying strictly on our free time is probably utopia.
