For me this one project [link] was just slow in IE8 ( yes I know IE) and now it is 20x faster in IE 8. Could FAPI have done it? Maybe. But all I had to do was swap out the FAPI Ajax callbacks for jQuery and it just was fast. Slow http://ajaxslow.com/products

Versatility

These buttons were a bit difficult to do with the FAPI Ajax. (for me) I could have mixed it with ajax_command_invoke.

How

Making a module

  • We will make a module that has a js file that will bind to a link and a select list.
  • Upon clicking or selecting it will send an Ajax request to the menu path or our module.
  • That menu path will then run some php and send back drupal_json_output to the js function.
  • The js file will take that output and put it into the page via a function we use and the data object it returns
