Agenda

  • What the heck is Developer Advocacy anyway?
  • A day in the life
  • How Jenny got there

A slide with a bus maps

A slide you can draw on

An excuse to write a game

These have something in common

They're all written using the Firebase API. The thing I work on.

Developer Advocates help products be successful through a developer ecosystem.

Developer advocates are software engineers who also like to

  • Hack up silly demos
  • Write words
  • Travel around and give talks (like this one)
  • Help people build cool stuff

There are no typical days

  • Learning a new programming language
  • Traveling to a conference in a far away land
  • Teaching a workshop
  • Staying up all night at a hackathon
  • Collaborating with an engineer on an API design
  • Pitching a book

How I got here

  • Didn't know what to do, so studied Computer Engineering
  • Did a bunch of internships
  • Found a real job coding
  • Sold that same software
  • Developer Relations became a thing
  • Bounced back and fourth between software engineering and DevRel

What do I want to be when I grow up?

I still have no idea.

And that's OK.

We talked about this stuff

  • There's this thing called Developer Advocacy
  • A day in the life
  • How Jenny got there

The End

Question time!
