Every night he had to go to a little office with only one little window, and write down the names of the people other vampires wished to eat.

One would think, well then, why doesn't he quit? And that is that...

But, you see, in Vampire society you get assigned to a job according to how powerful your embracer is.

And this fellow's embracer was the weakest vampire ever in the history of vampiric kind.
