About me: 6 years with Drupal 4 years freelancing I love rabbits
Who are you? And why are you at MidCamp? coder/non-coder hobbyist/employee saw keynote?
We're glad you're here.
"We're all mad here"
Why did you come to this session?Yes, code is awesome, but there are lots of ways to contribute to the codebase without being an expert in PHP, HTML, Javascript, Symfony, etc.
If you're looking to get started working on core, join us for sprinting on Sunday (or anytime during the camp)! Suitible for all levels, experienced mentors can help you get up to speed.
Can't attend? Check out other in-person events - Global Sprint Weekends, other camps, DrupalCon. I would recommend starting out in person if you're just getting started in contributing code to an open-source project.
"organize an event" note: "attend" was also on this list Doesn't have to be a camp; could be a Meetup group, or even just a lunch-and-learn Anything beyond a 1-time event for a dozen people should have mutliple organizers "Provide support" - Think about all the times you've gotten help (if you haven't you, you will!). The places where you got that help is the same place where you can provide it "Issue Queue" - Tough, but necessary
Writer - blog posts, case studies, news items. Event organizers can often use a hand from communications and wordsmithing experts. Designer - graphic design or user experience, there are always people looking for feedback, or could use a hand when implementing new ideas. Coder - Share your fixes, workarounds, and new ideas - Fixed an issue while working on a client project? Submit a patch! - Write a blog post documenting a new technique
Sponsor an event -- not the whole thing! Employee time @ work -- more than code!
We are all human individuals, with:
The tools we use to communicate can blind us from this fact.
